And as London Fashion Week SS27 unfolded, making a renewed splash in the fashion world we see a thread of duality throughout the shows—looking forward and back, mixing feminine and masculine, and even continents. Luckily, the Kevin Murphy team was there to help guide the narrative and report back on the latest we’re seeing behind the scenes and on the runway. Here’s to a new season of inspiration, fresh from LFW.
ERDEM LFW SS27
The Look: Flawless Flyaways + Romantic Braids
The Products Used: HAIR.RESORT, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, SESSION.SPRAY FLEX, POWDER.PUFF, ROUGH.RIDER, UN.TANGLED, FLAWLESS
Erdem’s SS27 show is what many are calling some of his best work yet. His looks encompassed a wide range from evening wear to everyday tailoring with styles that were made to stand out.
The collection—inspired by an American aerial performance artist named Barbette who performed in the 1920s and ‘30s—drew on costumes of the time, androgyny and ultimately a layered look that combined both the fantastically feminine and utterly masculine.
With a duality in the way in which the hair was styled, Souleiman created two opposing looks– a masculine, windswept finish with a deep side part and another braided look that was raw, romantic and also windswept, but as if it were frozen in time. Rather than resolving the tension between them, he allowed both to exist at once, giving them each their own point of view.
“I love this show because there are two very different looks,” says Souleiman. “One is a very masculine, raw-looking, textured style that moves away from the face. It’s loosely based on a 1940s Hollywood men’s hairstyle, but it’s broken and more disheveled. It looks like it has had a bit of a night, even though it was done in a really perfect way. I love that.”
KNWLS LFW SS27
The Look: Accessorising hair with hair
The Products: FLAWLESS, SESSION.SPRAY FLEX, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, POWDER.PUFF
Fashion week loves a low pony, and this year Eugene Souleiman created a fresh take on it by making hair the ultimate accessory, literally. Between the clothes and the hair, he mixed the state of undress seen at KNWLS SS27 with the undone to put a brand new twist on femininity.
Similar to the way designers Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault created looks that appeared as though they were falling but were ultimately completely secure, Souleiman crafted a hairstyle that lives in that same state—slipped, half on, half off, as though it's about to fall, yet flawlessly held together.
To create that feature within the hairstyle, Souleiman added a contrasting colour hairpiece to really accessorise the look. Hair was folded into a knot, and the additional hair was added to give off the appearance of having slipped from the ponytail.
“It’s basically accessorising hair with hair,” Souleiman says. “I love the fact that it feels almost like hair undressing itself, which is what the collection is doing. Bits of the clothing are falling from the shoulders. It’s half on, half off—you don’t know if it’s being taken off or put back on. I love that kind of drama.” He adds.
The idea of flawless carries additional weight for the brand this season with its latest launch —FLAWLESS. A 6-in-1 multitasking bond building styling lotion designed to protect and repair while helping style in a single step.
CONNER IVES SS27 NYFW
The Look: Flawless Glamour
The Products: FLAWLESS, BODY.BUILDER, ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY
Sleek, polished yet fun and with a bit of flair—words that describe both the clothes and the hair seen at Conner Ives SS27 show at NYFW.
Making a name for himself among the celebrities and fashion forward, this show hit close to home with his return across the pond and a delicate dance between individuality and statement finishes. The same way Conner Ives has made a name for himself, FLAWLESS has stolen the spotlight as a product to pick up this season.
Bringing the glamour and repair to NYFW, FLAWLESS helped the team achieve a healthy splash of shine and plenty of volume to go around. “Hair health is also a huge priority for me backstage, especially during Fashion Week, when models are doing multiple shows a day. FLAWLESS became our foundation because it gave us the protection and flexibility we needed across so many different hair types and styles,” says Hair Director Claire Grech.
And instead of everything face forward, volume took a fresh take by being swept up and off the face to give an almost 80s supermodel-in-the-wind-machine feel.
