The Short Haircut Trends You Don’t Want To Miss
There was a return to structured haircuts in 2021, and with trends like the bixie and boy bob on the horizon, 2022 has already proved that the movement isn’t going anywhere. Let’s take a peek at some of the top haircut trends we can expect to see more of this season.
For the first time in years, haircuts are seen as an accessory rather than a necessity. Most of us spent years opting for the occasional trim, but the modern client is actually on the hunt for a style that adds value to their look. Capitalising on wash and wear looks and the ability to accentuate natural texture instead of concealing it — current haircut trends are about exposing individuality and embracing a new version of one’s self.
2022 Haircut Trends
The Bixie
The pixie has been reimagined this season with a slightly longer silhouette. A mix between a pixie and a bob — the bixie is a new length being seen everywhere. Taking on shapes indicative of a long crop or with the addition of texture to give the finished look more flair. The bixie is a great transitional cut for anyone looking to grow out their pixie or try something new with their bob.
The final length will probably rest closer to your cheekbones and can be ideal to pair with a fun new colour for extra impact. If wearing hair natural — pair the look with HAIR.RESORT or KILLER.WAVES to add texture. When heat styling — always apply HEATED.DEFENSE and layer with EVER.BOUNCE to accentuate movement and extend style memory.
Variations of the Bob
The “boy bob,” ever-popular lob and stacked bob are some of the top shapes of the season. The biggest changes to the classic bob will be seen in the length — which has been modernised — and the finishing texture. Stylists are adding well-placed face-framing texture or in the case of the boy bob and stacked bob, creating a single weight line to add volume.
We love pairing the boy bob with a slightly “wet” finish. To create the look, use HEATED.DEFENSE + EVER.SMOOTH and a directional blow-dry to start a slicked-back feel. Then, comb HAIR.RESORT through strands for a slightly undone finish.
The Wolf Cut & Octopus Cut
As an update to the modern shag + mullet, the wolf cut gained a great deal of recognition and was one of our favourite haircuts featured in the SLEEPING.WATER campaign. There will be a continuation of the trend this year, with variations coming in the form of the octopus cut.
The wolf cut brings together length with short wispy layers and a face-framing texture for an exaggerated finish.
Even more exaggerated, the octopus cut pulls inspiration from the wolf cut, taking the juxtaposition of layers to the next level. Expect more layers at the crown and drawn out lengths through the ends.
Deciding between the two? The wolf cut has more weight to it and will naturally be more low-maintenance while the octopus cut will require a certain degree of daily styling whether wearing it natural or blown dry.
Regardless of which you decide on, be sure to pair your style with HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY + BEDROOM.HAIR for a light and airy finish.
