As a young teenager I would go to the Festival of trees and I was so touched by the generosity of everyone donating to this beautiful venue. The Festival of trees is where people can make and donate everything from trees to candy to wreaths and 100% of the proceeds go to Primary Children's hospital. There are thousands of people involved in this beautiful service. In 2004 I decided I wanted to contribute so every year since 2004 I have made jewelry and donated it to Santa's workshop. In 2017 my brother-in-law took his life and one morning I woke up and knew I wanted to make a tree in honor of him. I hurried and hopped online and registered to do a tree. I created a tree out of crystals and glass ornaments. It sold for $4,800 all the proceeds going to Primary children's. It was so addicting to give service especially during such a hard time of my life, that I decided the next year to donate a wreath in honor of my mom who was going through chemotherapy due to cancer. In 2019 I found out I had breast cancer and had to undergo a double mastectomy. My life felt heavy and hard and I wanted to do something for others who might be going through tough times. I wanted to do more than just donate, I wanted to donate my time so I volunteered to be on the board of the Festival of trees. It was several months of amazing service! I had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people in the state of Utah. I donated a wreath that year also. I had the opportunity to be part of the Festival of trees from start to finish and I loved it so much! I was so sad last year with covid that the Festival of trees was a small virtual event but I look forward to many more years of service with this beautiful event! I know that I have been given the talent of not only designing hair but designing trees and wreaths and beautiful things. I want to always help the community and do good things that benefit people and make people happy. Nothing brings greater Joy than service and it has gotten me through some of my toughest days!
