Story
Kerri Welch saw a vision that no one else saw. When she would drive down main street in the small southern town of Florence, MS everyone around her saw run down buildings and little opportunity. What Kerri saw was potential.
The vision when she started was to make Florence Mississippi a place people were begging to move to, a place people wanted to come to, and stay. That is exactly what is happening.
Through her and her partner Tracy Branch they have created a destination spot that clients from all over the state drive to come see. They started a trend of small businesses coming to Florence and staying. That is what Kerri can be attributed to, seeing potential where others do not and creating something that is sustainable for a community that did not have it before.
She doesn’t want her salons to be in big cities that have a lot of money. She has a heart for small southern towns where a salon like the Glossary changes peoples lives. Not only because they can get the best service around, but because she believes that every soul that walks through the Glossary’s doors should feel welcomed, cared for and at home. For some clients coming into the Glossary is the first time they have ever felt worthy. This is why Kerri spends her life dedicated to changing the story, not only for small towns, but for people.
Not only is Kerri dedicated to her community but she is passionate about making sure the stylists that she works with are taken care of. Last year, when COVID-19 had forced the Glossary to shut down she and Tracy personally went out and took the stylists that work with them food, drinks and gifts that they knew would help lift their spirits during the uncertain times. Along with checking in on their team they created a business opportunity to help with the financial side of the stress. Kerri came up with the idea of Glossary Boxes. These were gift boxes that they sold to their clientele and a part of the sales went to help the stylist that were financially struggling during the shutdown.
As you can see, Kerri is not just a stylist, not just a business owner, not just one thing. She is a beacon to the community of Florence, she is a mentor to the stylist that works with her, a calmness in an industry that can sometimes be extremely hectic. She is what it means to be a salon owner, what it means to be a community leader, what it means to be a part of the Glossary team.
