Now Trending: Mermaid Hair
After a season of short styles, long hair and languid waves will be everywhere come spring and summer. Learn our top tips for getting your hair to grow and how to achieve the iconic beachy wave.
While we absolutely love the trend toward bobs and pixies, some of you may be in the mood to wear a longer style as the weather warms. If you’ve been dreaming of long, mermaid hair with the waves to match we’ve got steps (and product picks) to get you there.
Prioritise Hair Care
Whether you’re looking to add a few inches or a few feet, the top way to get your hair to grow is by putting the health of your hair first. Curious if you’re on the right track?
- Opt for frequent trims
- Protect against heat (or use less of it)
- Reevaluate your scalp care
These are perfect starting points to get your hair growth on track and here’s why:
Trims: Frequent trims cut down on the damage that can occur over time, especially as hair grows. By cutting off dead ends, it will actually cut down on breakage caused by split ends and tangles, which in the long run will lead to longer, healthier hair.
Heat Protection: Heat (from blow dryers, flat irons or curling tongs) is a daily stressor that causes damaged cuticles and therefore split ends and breakage. Swap to a more frequent air dry routine or safeguard your hair against damage with HEATED.DEFENSE.
Scalp Care: Scalp care is one of the most overlooked hair care practices that can make a big difference in the outcome of your style. Incorporating a scalp system — like SCALP.SPA — helps stimulate the scalp while clearing away buildup that may be hindering hair growth. Get The Look: The Iconic Beachy Wave
While we love the beach wave on all lengths, this style is ideal to pair with long hair for a quintessential finish. As one of the trends that Kevin Murphy has been known for from the start, it only takes a few key products and tools to get the look.
Step 1: Utilise either HAIR.RESORT or HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY on damp hair. The choice between the two products comes down to the type and length of your hair as well as the amount of hold you need. Typically, HAIR.RESORT is better suited to short styles and thicker textures that need more control, while HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY works wonders on longer, finer hair types.
Once your product of choice is applied, scrunch the hair slightly to invigorate the curl pattern. From here you can either air dry or use a diffuser on a medium heat setting.
Step 2: When hair is almost fully dry, spritz KILLER.WAVES throughout and place WAVE.CLIPS throughout the hair and allow to dry or complete drying with a diffuser. WAVE.CLIPS were designed specifically to cut down on frizz while forming hair into the perfect wave shape. Allow hair to cool and then remove the clips and rake your fingers through hair.
Step 3: If more definition is needed, spritz ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY throughout dry hair and use a positive-negative set with a curling tong to create a finished feel. Then, finish with a quick spray of BEDROOM.HAIR or DOO.OVER to create an airy finish and added volume throughout.
