Disco Curls Are Making Waves This Season
Curls, volume, 70s-inspired — it’s everything we love in a hairstyle, and the latest Disco Curls trend captures all of them in one. Disco Curls are a modern take on 70’s volume with a fluffy yet still defined finish. They can add life to your layers and make your colour pop and most of all; they make a statement. With larger-than-life volume and accentuated texture, Disco Curls are their own accessory and can elevate any look.
The Disco Curl Trend
While low-maintenance styles will continue to trend, sometimes it’s fun to get glammed up. If we look to TikTok and Instagram, we’re flooded with information about blow-dry tutorials, classic sets, and using tools like rollers to get a voluminous finish. Whether you’re a fan of the faux-out or prefer a traditional blow-out, Disco Curls take the bouncy blowout one step further with big, bouncy, voluminous curls.
Where To Start
They don’t require a specific haircut or a certain color, Disco Curls can be created on anyone using hot tools or by accentuating your natural texture.
Get The Look: Natural Curls or Coils
Whether you have open-waved hair, loose curls, tight curls or coils, you can utilise your natural texture to create this look.
- Always start with a heat protectant. BLOW.DRY WASH + RINSE is a great way to add heat protection to the hair or you can utilise HEATED.DEFENSE.
- Use a diffuser to dry your hair, flipping your head upside down or side to side as needed to add volume. If your hair dries naturally with volume, you can also use this option.
- Once hair is dry, if curl or wave definition is needed, use a 3/4-1-Inch curling tong based on the finish desired.
- Wrap small sections of hair around the tong beginning at the new growth with tight tension. To create more volume use an alternating curl pattern.
- Once hair is completely cool, brush through with a TEXTURE.COMB to create a fluffy finish and spray hair with a texturising spray like BEDROOM.HAIR or DOO.OVER to lock in an airy volume.
Get The Look: Straight or Wavy Hair
If your hair lacks texture or volume, you’ll need dedicated products and styling tips to add this to your look.
- Prep hair with PLUMPING.WASH + RINSE to build body in from the start.
- Towel dry and apply HEATED.DEFENSE and EVER.BOUNCE throughout. If you have a hard time building volume at the base, also apply BODY.BUILDER to the new growth area.
- Flip your head over and begin to rough dry, then use a large round brush to dry hair up and away from the face.
- Roll the top section up and away from the face using LARGE HAIR.CURLERS and allow to cool.
- Then, apply ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY to mid-lengths and ends and SANDBLAST to build texture and hold.
- Section the hair and use a small curling tong (3/4-1-inch) depending on your length and desired finish.
- Wrap small sections of hair around the tong beginning at the new growth with tight tension. To create more volume use an alternating curl pattern.
- Once hair is completely cool, brush through with a TEXTURE.COMB to create a fluffy finish. If more structure of volume is needed, use a TAIL.COMB to BACK BRUSH the hair slightly.
- After brushing the hair out, apply SESSION.SPRAY or SESSION.SPRAY FLEX and a light dusting of SHIMMER.SHINE to finish.
