Dare To Redefine: The New SESSION.SALON!

The hairdresser-client relationship is one of trust, commitment, and beauty. Working as partners, the investment in time from each side helps determine the path they’ll take as one. As we all embark on new journeys within the industry together, it’s never been as important as it is now to strengthen this relationship. Celebrating the individuality of the client and the cult-like nature of the brand, KEVIN.MURPHY is excited to announce a newly redesigned global initiative — progressive in nature and rooted in diverse creativity—SESSION.SALON by KEVIN.MURPHY.

This program dives deep into the man behind the brand, product knowledge, meeting clients’ needs, backstage work, creative briefs, session styling and the encouragement of individuality among all aspects.

To give a sneak peek into the new world of SESSION.SALON we’ve created covetable looks that embraced the unique character of each real-life “model.”

“With this shoot, we aimed to bring SESSION.SALON into a real, urban environment. Taking cues from spaces in international cities like New York, London and Los Angeles and the diversity they hold. It was about the idea of finding a character, an individual in the crowd, then documenting and showing them honestly as they are.” — Kevin Murphy

1. Starting at the centre, divide hair into square sections that contour the head shape. Apply EASY.RIDER for control and then using extension hair specifically for braiding, create a box braid adding hair as you go to create length. Adding less in as you reach the base in order to taper the ends off with ease.

2. Seal the ends utilising heat and SUPER.GOO to laminate various portions of the braid and cut down on flyaways.

3. Spritz with SHIMMER.SHINE to finish.

1. Prep hair with HEATED.DEFENSE and HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY. Blast dry to create volume, then smooth ends with a round brush.

2. Utilise a large tong in a positive-negative set.

3. Brush out section by section and laminate with DOO.OVER

4. Finish with SESSION.SPRAY.

1. Start with a smooth blow-dry utilising a round brush, EVER.SMOOTH, and ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY.

2. Create a very relaxed positive negative set with a large tong.

3. Flip the hair forward then rake through with HAIR.RESORT before flipping the hair back.

4. Finish with TOUCHABLE.

1. Prep natural texture with STAYING.ALIVE and SHIMMER.SHINE, and diffuse until dry.

2. Take 1-inch / 2.5cm sections and curl with a pencil tong to enhance the natural texture, then allow to cool.

3. Using your fingers, laminate with YOUNG.AGAIN.

4. Break up the sections by pulling them with the palms of your hands but be careful not to rake through with your fingers and disturb the curl.

1. Beginning with the cut, take a section below the crest and using a scissor over comb technique to create shape, tighten and maintain squareness. Avoid a blunt cut by allowing the length to filter to the hairline all over.

2. Above the crest line using your fingers, cut hard and square, allowing the length to merge seamlessly. Cut into a plateau on top and keep the corners.

3. To create the fringe use your CURVED.SCISSOR and cut right back to the hairline from recession to recession. Repeat on either side taking care to keep the line square and texturise as necessary.

4. After rinsing, blow-dry the hair with a TEXTURE.COMB from side to side and cross-check your cut. Add TOUCHABLE to create texture, then finish with SHIMMER.ME BLONDE for extra luminosity.
