Story
In June of 2020 right before the salon planned to reopen from the covid closure George Floyd was murdered and Chicago started to protest and riot to stand up to police brutality. We had to pause our reopening and board up the salon. Instead of being discouraged, we wanted to give back to the community and stand up for what we believe in.
I have a 7 year old who wanted to help make a difference with me. He has been a huge part of the salon since he was born. So, we rallied our neighborhood kids and parents and painted a kids mural on the boarded up salon boards letting our neighborhood know that we stood in solidarity with black people, that black lives matter and that the murder of George Floyd was wrong and was police brutality.
I was proud of my son for using his voice to spread change and love. I was happy to be able to use the voice of my business to share the message in our community.
We still have the painted boards in the break room at the salon today as a memory of our voice in the community and how families came together to help spread the message
