Hello ! My name is Ria Hennessy and on March 1 of 2020 I signed a lease to open Moxie Bravo Salon. I have always wanted to open a salon because I believe in education and always making yourself better emotionally, physically, spiritually and mentally. Unfortunately the world shut down March 15 2020 and my dream was put to a halt. The lease had already been signed so I couldn’t get out of it . I also could not receive any money from the government or get a bank loan because of Covid and the timing of the situation . Being a strong determined person I had to be creative and try to open a salon with no money and no support. One way I did that was by recycling old tables and making shelves for the salon for my retail. I had to find tables on social media and call Goodwill all while everything was shut down and closed due to COVID .. We then created the amazing shelves that are considered my altar. I also took scissors and welded them to make hangers for coats. I looked for church benches and other items that I could recycle and re-purpose for the salon along with chairs to reupholstered. We continued to build the salon until June 1 when we could open up .. I grew tremendous strength from the situation and do you feel like I can push through many obstacles because of it.
Moxie Bravo Salon is also based on community there is nothing more than I love to do then to serve my community and make it a better place. I am blessed with some of the best clients in the whole world and I’ve been able to connect people and create human connection through the salon which was another reason why I wanted to open a Salon. Moxie Bravo helps many charities in the area . I support many events by giving baskets of Retail and gift certificates. Casa of Will county is one of my favorite non profit organizations. Casa helps children who are in the court system and need a Leitem to speak for them at court. The other nonprofit organizations I support (witches night out, Saint Jude golf outing, casa, pink heels, hugs of Shorewood and many others ) through giving baskets, giving time volunteering and talking about them on a daily basis so the community is educated on all the organizations that need support. I always find time to volunteer and to be an example for others and I know when you give you get more back in your heart . Moxiebravo also supports recycling and I give my clients an opportunity to bring in their old bottles of KM amd I refill them for a discount. My clients love that it makes them feel like they’re doing something special also. Kevin Murphy is such a great product line in all of the recycling that it gives me more opportunity to speak about positive things and to educate people about recycling and opportunities rhat Kevin Murphy gives to me as a stylist and a Salon owner. The last two years my focus has been on improving my life in the life of others and I really hope I have an impact that giving back is the most rewarding opportunity to gift yourself . My children also see what I do and it’s an example to the future next generation. ab I love that the next generation cares about recycling and animal cruelty and making sure that our world is a better place also and I believe my children make me a better person I have learned from them . Thank you Ria Hennessy
My philanthropy has been an ongoing event since my career started but since owning the salon I feel like I can do more for the community whether it’s buying a hole in a golf outing or giving a basket. Donating money, physically volunteering , so my timing for my charities is non going and will continue as long as my career does. My recycling for my retail will continue as long as I have my salon. I hope I can leave the world a better place.
