3 Standout Trends from Erki Fashion Show

Taking place in Tallinn, Estonia – KEVIN.MURPHY has been a dedicated sponsor of Erki Fashion show for the past four years. The show – occurring once a year – is an entire day dedicated to fashion and crowning the top graduate designer of the year. Traditionally, each year 21 designers debut their gorgeous collections. This season, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we worked with 17 designers and over 135 models to showcase their fashions, each captured in their own installation.

The beautiful thing about this event has always been the idea that each designer should showcase their own unique style while KEVIN.MURPHY works to prepare a variety of looks – from braids to waves or wet looks – to coincide with each individual designer.

Of all the individual styles, this year three main trends stood out as they wove their way through each show – waves, braids, and slicked-back styles. Led by KEVIN.MURPHY GLOBAL SESSION.MASTER Massimo Morello and his team, keep reading to see the top styles they created and how to get the looks!

While signature KEVIN.MURPHY beach waves, undone styles and out-of-the-box bends debuted on the runways at the Erki Fashion Show, it was the finger wave style showcased at Annika Kiidron – this year’s winner of the Golden Needle – that caught everyone’s attention. In order to create a smooth look that coincided with the collection, Massimo created this look utilising BODY.BUILDER and HAIR.RESORT. The trick to this look was applying HAIR.RESORT to the hair to mould the look into place, and then once dry using a tint brush to apply another layer of HAIR.RESORT, creating a high shine finish.

Rotating around the power of sadness and solitude, Edward Hiietam’s show featured plenty of prints and voluminous sleeves, complemented with decisive waves. The designer wanted hair that felt more haphazard than a traditional wave, therefore Massimo created this look with HEATED.DEFENSE prior to blow-drying, ANTI.GRAVITY to set the hair, a free-hand iron, and TOUCHABLE to finish.

Adding interest to the hair and highlighting COLOR.ME at the Erki Fashion Show, intricate basket woven braids accompanied Anu Sirkas’ styles on the catwalk. The idea of adding fabric to the hair was instantly adored by the designer for the ability to secure the hair with a soft finish. Ensuring just the right amount of contrast, hair colour was enhanced with CLEAR, GREEN.BOOSTER and YELLOW.BOOSTER for coolness and instant shine.

Adding intricate to the every day, the Marlins Niine show made the case for scalp braids this season. The designer was looking for an interwoven style that still allowed her fashion to take center stage and the end result was a stunning combination of figure-8 and rope braids.

The idea of the show was to highlight the role of women as dominant and powerful. Therefore, Massimo suggested recreating the look of a whip within the hair. The style then grew into a slicked-back pony that incorporated faux leather strings to resemble the idea. To achieve the finished look, EVER.SMOOTH was elemental in creating a smooth style that also held the shape of the heat styling.

In another iteration of a slicked-back style, the Anneliis Reilli show highlighted a juxtaposition of flat, smooth sleekness on top with big bouncy volume throughout the ends and back creating a waterfall effect. This clash within the hairstyle was exactly what the designer was looking for to make a statement with her collection. HAIR.RESORT and SESSION.SPRAY were the hero products used behind the scenes to create the sleek look, while ANTI.GRAVITY, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY and SESSION.SPRAY FLEX were heavily utilised for the voluminous curls.
