My story begins with the desire to bring back and reignite salon culture and experience. With a radical heart of redefining vanity as a journey of self esteem healing and expression. I worked within many salon models working behind the chair , being the education lead , creative direction and also had the incredible experiences of working with brands backstage in Paris , LA and NY.Yet something was always missing , there was never a focus on the sacred journey of our client experience. They was always chatter about communication and relationship in the industry but there was never a focus on its depth and really what we had the capacity to do while working in the salon with clients or within the incredible energy of leaning into your team for support.
There was never the integration of using trend/communication/mindfulness to create a culture for clients and employees to have a safe loving space to experience the vastness of their own self expression and esteem journey . With all of this built up energy it was time , time to cultivate with a loving purpose . Time to create a pro inclusive environment where both employees and clients can and will thrive on a unique journey. Mentoring with meditation practices to connect with self , connecting to our creative pulse and sharing and teaching each other . Partnering with diverse brands and artists who are committed to a broad vision. Out of all this energy I planned and cleared the path for The House of Stylists At North to amplify the community we live in.
Stylists At North was born in 2015. Our story continues and is constantly growing as our mission grows.
Redefining Vanity is part of our original mission , inviting everyone to stop witnessing vanity as a dirty word but as a knock to the door of the journey to our self esteem healing. Our mission was to be involved in groups where the spotlight wasn’t necessarily being shinned on . Being a first generation queer feminine male this is and will forever speak to my heart . Our programs are always built and designed with one purpose Gratitude!!! It’s deeply ingrained in our culture . Our first anniversary party we raised 2,000.00 for The seaport foundation . A organization that provides low income troubled youth the chance to learn carpentry and craftsmanship to set them up for success (a continued partnership)Our second year we started our own ambush makeover project for cancer awareness . Our community was asked to nominate caregivers/survivors/loved ones for the opportunity for us to give them a full day of beauty. (Still ongoing) Our anniversary parties where time to give thanks to our clients but also raise awareness of people in our community in need. Casa de Ruby an amazing safe place for homeless trans youth that provides shelter education and counseling , When government employees were furloughed we offered free hair services , Be the good project we raised a total of 3,000.00 made 500 sandwiches for local food banks during our shutdown in COVID . One of our team soul sisters lost her youngest brother to suicide and we raised 2,000.00 in his honor .
Two years ago we became one of the only studios in the area to offer genderless pricing , giving our lgbtq+ community a safe place to arrive as who they are and not be charged on a dated bussiness model . To also allow equality be the foundation of our pricing not gender.
I really want to say as I’m sharing this with you guys I’m incredibly honored for this opportunity. ITs not often as a bussiness owner we get to deeply share the Heart of our story . I’m so proud and blessed to be able to do what I have done and plan to keep building and expanding our unique imprint as a small studio in this very large industry.
