I was encouraged by my husband, friends and peers to submit for the Kevin.Murphy Icon Award. It is not natural for me to talk about just myself or what I do for others, but the chance to become more involved with the Kevin.Murphy family has me humbled and excited to introduce myself to you. My name is Laura Bosse, and I am the Owner of LOX & Co. Salon. I opened in February 2018, after working at a commission salon five years before that. I am passionate about all things business and people. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing in 2011 and while working at the front desk of a salon at the time, found that the hair industry would be the perfect fit for both of my life’s passions. I was enrolled in hair school two weeks later. People thought I was nuts, but I couldn’t be happier with this decision. Being a business owner and getting to create positive impact on my clients’ lives is the most fulfilling gift. Finding Kevin.Murphy was also a decision I take a lot of pride in. Being a Session.Stylist and a part of the Kevin.Murphy brand has been an honor and something I plan to continue throughout my salon career.
In 2017, two months after meeting my now husband, he was diagnosed with both stage 3C Seminoma cancer and also a heart failure condition. Our journey started together in the worst of ways, but we came out of surgeries, a long road of chemotherapy, a stroke, and multiple other life and death moments, stronger on the other side. Because of everything I went through with Brett, I have tremendous empathy for those struggling around me with similar situations. Cancer sucks, plain and simple, but I feel honored that things we learned along the way have helped so many around us stay strong, persevere, or just have a listening ear from someone who “gets it”. Due to those experiences with Brett, I strive to have a positive impact on everyone that I come in contact with, not just my family and friends but also clients and other stylists.
The choices that we make each day can have an impact on those around us, and I strive to have a positive impact on others every day. Each year I give back, either financially or with my time and energy, to a cancer foundation or towards a fundraiser for someone else going through cancer. Whether it’s driving to a client’s home to highlight their hair for one last family photo before their chemotherapy starts and their hair falls out, donating baskets of Kevin.Murphy products to cancer events, or simply sitting with someone processing the heavy news that just needs to cry, with our experiences, I feel a connection to those going through this and feel a calling to support in any way I can.
I give my heart and energy to my clients each and every day, and experience both their joys and troubles with them. All people deserve to be loved and cared for, and I make it my mission for my clients and those around me to be empowered to feel the same. Recently, during the pandemic, having a number of healthcare workers as friends and clients, I witnessed the long hours and energy they were giving to everyone in the community. Because of that, I held a holiday Kevin.Murphy product sale, with all proceeds being donated to frontline workers by way of the beloved Kevin.Murphy Holiday Kits. It not only showed the support I had for those taking care of the community during that time, but also created a platform for my clients and others in the community to show their support as well by contributing to my cause. Fifteen Kevin.Murphy regimens were donated in total to each of the Intensive Care Unit nurses at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. It was really amazing to be able to give back to people that have given their all for us this past year.
While my business was shut down during the pandemic, I used my artistic creativeness and entrepreneurial skills to create and sell at-home color touch-up kits. Each kit was prepared to the formula specific to each client, and Kevin.Murphy products were paired with the kits for delivery. Each round I also offered up the ability for people to sponsor kits for those working in healthcare, and that was an amazing, touching gift that came out of this as well! I was able to deliver the kits to the homes of my clients in a contact-free way, providing for their needs while still following the guidelines of the pandemic. After a few rounds of full day deliveries (usually leaving my house at 8am and returning 8pm!), I partnered with other stylists in the area to empower them to follow my lead and do the same. It was truly incredible to get to make the community around me feel cared for during such an uncertain time. It was also amazing to find out I had inspired so many other stylists to do the same. Empowering other stylists to succeed is something that gives me life, and I love supporting those around me in the hair industry.
I love Kevin.Murphy’s focus on the choices that we make, because I firmly believe our lives are a culmination of the choices we make, and each choice MATTERS. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to get to know me and hopefully consider me and my choices for this award. It would mean the world to me, especially as I am currently involved in purchasing property to renovate and open a larger, beautiful Kevin.Murphy salon in 2022. Being more involved with the brand, and having an expanded business, I believe my ability to give to and reach people in the community will grow as well. I plan to create a mission called “LOX Cares” that gives one percent of retail sales back to those in need in our community so that every purchase made will have even more meaning attached to it.

I love Kevin.Murphy’s focus on the choices that we make, because I firmly believe our lives are a culmination of the choices we make, and each choice matters. While I feel like my everyday choices create great impact on those around me, here are a few highlights of my contributions to the community from 2020:
December 19, 2020: Gifted Kevin.Murphy haircare sets to frontline ICU workers at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
November 2, 2020: Donated to Drew Nichols’ family to help cover the costs of cancer he was battling.
March 18, 2020 – May 15, 2020: Hand-delivered Kevin.Murphy retail products and at-home color root-retouch kits to those across Dayton and Cincinnati. Each round of deliveries sponsored and paid for someone in healthcare to receive a kit at no cost.
January 31, 2020 – Donated multiple Kevin.Murphy gift baskets to the Nicara Glover “Her Battle is my Battle” Cancer Event
