Highlights from the Shows
As the official hair partner, the KEVIN.MURPHY team created each of the hairstyles seen on the runways. From concept to completion their main goal was to highlight the global movement surrounding inclusivity in beauty and championing natural hair textures with SELF-MADE. From thatching to manipulation, wet-looks, awkward fringes, and barely-there waves and textures, the styles created at 2020 M/FW.
With a show literally set in a kid’s bouncy castle, the “come as you are” theme easily shined through. Crisp silhouettes and easy-to-wear garments were met with styles meant to enhance movement and motion within each model. To get the look, the team utilised KILLER.WAVES, DOO.OVER, SESSION.SPRAY and SHIMMER.ME BLONDE for an effortlessly-chic finished style.
Bright colours that echoed in both dress and makeup on the runway were met with slick partings and linear partings to echo a 90ss meets 70s vibe. Highlighting the cheek-bone and jawline, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, SESSION.SPRAY and SHIMMER.SHINE was key to achieving this slick manipulation.
Intricate patterns, bold colours and statement accessories paid homage to the designers’ African Heritage. To complete the look, each model wore braids that took on sculptural forms and easily stole the show. To get the finished look, the KEVIN.MURPHY SEWING.KIT was essential alongside utilising YOUNG.AGAIN, SESSION.SPRAY and SHIMMER.SHINE to get the perfect glowy finish.
Post-modernist cool-girl vibes of a summer well spent echo throughout Arnsdorf with check sets, simple knits and a wet-look that carefully complements with utilitarian effect. LEAVE-IN.REPAIR, SUPER.GOO and STAYING.ALIVE created this controlled look that kept hair up and away from the face with ease.
Classic tailoring meets classic grooming at the Chris Ran Lin show as knitted vests, colour-blocked jumpers and houndstooth plaid suits were highlighted. Coinciding with the various textures featured in dress, the natural texture of each model was capitalised upon using STAYING.ALIVE, EASY.RIDER, FREE.HOLD, and SESSION.SPRAY to accentuate the various hair types.
The impressive student collection showcases a mix of strong silhouettes that highlight a modern take on the avant-garde. To increase the effect of layered texture within the designs, hair was exaggerated with mullet shapes and defined natural texture with the help of LEAVE-IN.REPAIR, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, DOO.OVER, TOUCHABLE, SESSION.SPRAY and SHIMMER.SHINE.
Fantasy-forward designs partner with ethereal styling at Misha where gritty-grungy texture and dramatic length frame the model’s face. LEAVE-IN.REPAIR, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, MOTION.LOTION, SESSION.SPRAY, and SHIMMER.ME BLONDE was essential to creating this look, loaded with texture.
The story behind the fashion at Verner is one of evolving character and style. As the looks progress, the model develops from protagonist to naturalist, then daydreamer and businesswoman. To coincide with these changes, the hair needed to be easily manipulated throughout. STAYING.ALIVE, ANTI.GRAVITY, SUPER.GOO, SESSION.SPRAY FLEX, and SHIMMER.SHINE was utilised to move the hair from soft, clean fluffy waves to structural edge work and then a sculpted ponytail.
Elk is the epitome of summer along the Gold Coast. Inspire by the escapes of Byron Bay, this collection is all about the summer sun and a well-spent afternoon under the palm trees. Pairing these clean lines with a no-fuss finish, a low twist full of sandblasted texture and deliberate control was created using HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, DOO.OVER, SESSION.SPRAY and SEWING.KIT.
Centered around the idea of radical change, the designs at Mndatory aimed to draw focus on environmental impact and the way in which fashion fits into this narrative. Pushing for more sustainable options, clothes were reworked and reimagined to highlight a more conscious outlook. To accompany this idea of revival, the hair took on a “tomorrow’s hair today” feel with looks that were well-rested with a lived-in feel. To create the style, the team utilised LEAVE-IN.REPAIR, EASY.RIDER, SUPER.GOO, TOUCHABLE, and SESSION.SPRAY in combination with a TEXTURE.NET for the perfect finish.
Marrying unique details with diverse textures, JASONGRECH has always elevated the evening wear category and this year proves no different with his use of gilded and lush fabrics. To complement the shine coming through his designs, gold leaf makeup details were capitalised upon as hair took a sleek and simple approach. Creating the infamous two-step runway pony the KEVIN.MURPHY team utilised LEAVE-IN.REPAIR, ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY, HAIR.RESORT.SPRAY, SESSION.SPRAY and the SEWING.KIT to create the sleek and sophisticated middle part pony full of lustre.
The essence of NGALI has always been to support indigenous talent while also placing a focus on mindful manufacturing. Believing that looking good and doing good go hand in hand, the latest collection – Mandaang – translates to “happy,” which is exactly what her earthy-toned designs encourage. Blending fashion and art, NGALI textiles have been woven internally into each pony to create layers of texture and colour. Starting with the iconic KEVIN.MURPHY ponytail, the team created centre parts and smoothed texture slightly as they fastened the hair, leaving whisps out around the hairline. EVER.SMOOTH, MOTION.LOTION, SESSION.SPRAY, SHIMMER.SHINE, PIN.CLIPS and the SEWING.KIT was essential to creating this one of a kind style.
