Designers are embracing a new normal as yet another fashion week took on a digital presence. This year, Copenhagen Fashion Week was transformed into CPHFW72H (Copenhagen Fashion Week 72 Hours) – a hybrid event that involved a few live showgoers and plenty of online ones. Instead of a week-long affair, Copenhagenfashionweek.com streamed shows, talks, events, exhibitions and installations live for 72 hours, creating a new digitally condensed Copenhagen Fashion Week. A bold move allowing for fashion lovers near and far to tune in for the festivities.

Soeren Le Schmidt
Among these shows was Soeren Le Schmidt – a label that has become an obvious choice for celebrities in Denmark and regularly appears on the Red Carpet. Their classic designs are known for their expert tailoring with an edge. Inspired by architecture, they pay tribute to diversity while also highlighting gender fluidity.

The Show
Although presenting a more muted palate this season, various shades of blues encapsulated their SS21 presentation as the pop of colour everyone was looking for. This played out with models rocking bright blue lipstick, men and women in baby blue and denim tailoring, and hints of blue within the hair. An obvious tie to the 90s and perhaps even a nod to the Classic Blue Pantone Colour of the Year and the buzziness of Blue Beauty, we saw this colour statement as a bold way to tie back his designs to the larger picture surrounding sustainability within fashion, especially for Soeren Le Schmidt. This season dresses, blazers, and sets featured pure wools mixed with raw denim and sustainable furniture fabric, further demonstrating his commitment to a more sustainable future for the industry.

The Style
Bringing these styles, and the colour to life, KEVIN.MURPHY SESSION.MASTER Marianne Jensen led the team backstage this year with SESSION.MASTER Massimo Morello and ARTISTIC DESIGN.DIRECTOR James Nicholson by her side.
Taking us behind the scenes, Massimo noted that the vibe backstage felt relaxed. For Massimo, Copenhagen Fashion Week brought about a “normalcy” many stylists have been searching for. Spending the last few months inside, the team hit the ground running as if not a day had passed. Their tight-knit team knows they can count on each other to execute elevated work and even with a paired down audience, being backstage didn’t feel any different than last year. The only difference is that they sent models out on the catwalk to a socially distanced and mostly digital audience. For them, creating a beautifully finished hairstyle is still the same whether it is presented in person or online.
When it came to the look, the team wanted to include COLOR.ME on the runway, which could easily be seen in the matching blue tendrils of hair. Talking products, EVER.SMOOTH – a heat-activated style extender – was a game-changer to help prep and extend the longevity of the model’s hair. The styles were effortless as curls took on a modified bend and both men and women wore beautiful braids. Throughout the show, each model’s individual style was capitalised on yet tied back to the overall theme with ease.
