The Top Hairstyle Trends Featured at NYFW SS24
The SS24 runways at New York Fashion Week were a delicate balance of the supernatural and the realistic, paring some things back while over-accentuating others. Many shows took us out of this world, leaning on AI or Sirencore (this year’s mermaid core), and moulded shapes, and then brought us back earth-side with little to no makeup and gelled buns. The takeaway is that while we are all dressing up again, we’re doing it for ourselves and no one else.
Willy Chavarria — New Glowing Universe of Beauty
Creative Director: Willy Chavarria
Brand Lead: Brandi Holdaway
Lead Artist: Joey George
He’s known for his cinematic presentations and the sense of excitement his collections bring. Alongside taking a stance for human rights, Willy Chavarria partners with organisations that are close to his heart. Presenting his SS24 collection at the Woolworth Building, his designs echoed the rich, architectural history of the building with structural pieces to match.
Bringing the drama, the hair from Chavarria’s “New Glowing Universe of Beauty” quickly became NYFW’s Most-Asked-About Look. The cloud-like bouffant style was led by hairstylist Joey George with support from KEVIN.MURPHY.
While much of the look was attributed to the foundational skills and products used, much of the finished style came down to an intuitive approach to shaping the hair based on the model’s individuality. “The look is all about this really cool zoot suit and 1940s-inspired hair,” says Joey George. “It just depended on how the hair fell into the models’ faces,” he adds.

The remarkable detail about the styles was that they required no heat to create the look, just a little help from KEVIN.MURPHY products and a bit of shaping.
- POWDER.PUFF volumising powder was the hero product of the show to hold the soft, pillowy shape of the hair.
In addition to these, an array of other iconic products were used based on each model's hair needs.
Palomo Spain — Cruising In The Rose Garden
Creative Director Alejandro Gómez Palomo
Brand Lead: Sarah Lund, KEVIN.MURPHY
Palomo Spain’s SS24 runway was a beautiful collection of pieces that easily abolished our society’s view of gender. The pieces brought tailored femininity to life with garments that blended delicate laces and silks with heavier denim and ruched florets to accompany the “Cruising In The Rose Garden” theme. Letting the pieces tell the main story, makeup was minimal and hair was slicked back.
“For Palomo Spain’s SS24 Show, it was all about keeping everything sleek and away from the face. From loop ponytails to braids, the peek-a-boo red panels were a cool nod to the ‘90s and really worked to elevate the look, while the rest of the looks highlighted natural texture," Said Sarah Lund, KEVIN.MURPHY brand lead artist for the show. "What I love about these looks is that the clothes become the main focus — it’s pulling everything away but having an elegant and sophisticated finish to the hair,” Lund adds.
Products Used To Get The Look:
- KILLER.TWIRLS for textured hair
- HAIR.RESORT, YOUNG.AGAIN, SHIMMER.SHINE & SESSION.SPRAY for the slicked-back, edgy looks.
In addition to these, an array of other iconic products were used based on each model's hair needs.
Phillip Lim — The Ever-Evolving Tapestry of New York
Creative Director & Co-Founder: Philip Lim
Brand Lead: Leland Olson
Lead Artist: KEVIN.MURPHY & DYSON Tools Lead Artist Mustafa Yanaz
While the daily task of getting dressed can sometimes feel like a chore, Philip Lim has added excitement to the task by showcasing his “New York Uniform,” which highlights the diversity, culture, and style of living in NYC. The show featured layers of fabric and layers of meaning — blending American Sportswear with his Chinese heritage to create the intricate architecture that is his Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
Among denim sets, sweeping gowns and floral prints, Lim’s show highlighted three diverse hair looks that were meant to capture the “powerful New York woman,” without appearing overly “done.”
